Heat-Up St. Louis

Heat-Up St. Louis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping local elderly and disabled people and low-income families with paying their heating and electric bills. Not having enough heat in winter or cooling in summer can pose health and safety risks for the affected individuals. Because utilities companies do not offer special rates for those with lower incomes and because other expenses often take priority, energy payments are neglected. Heat-Up St. Louis, and its summer charity Cool Down St. Louis, provide utility counsel, referrals, heat and cooling grants to restore primary home heating or air-conditioning and make payments on high electric bills in the summer for at-risk households when government programs fall short. Because the organization is run completely by volunteers, 100% of the donations Heat-Up St. Louis receives go to helping the needy. The efforts of Heat-Up St. Louis have now aided over 45,000 people in the greater St. Louis region.
