The first Saint Louis Fashion Week kicked off with an evening that featured St. Louis' up-and-coming, home-grown designer talent. With no budget to add a night of shows to the Saint Louis Fashion Week lineup, the local fashion community rallied to form a collective that created the Garment District Fashion Show in the open air of the Downtown St. Louis loft district. Designers, models, local musicians, artists and dancers closed down the street to put on a night of runway shows, live music and dance that drew thousands from across the city and surrounding neighborhoods. The collaboration between designers, stylists, models, agencies and artists launched many careers, friendships and the idea to create Bakers Project:Design!
